recollections of Katoomba: part time jobs and mishaps

* a collection of stories and memories, in no particular order, from the life and times of John Clarke, who served as a policeman in the Australian Police Force, a great practical joker, he also had a great affinity with people and wildlife, was a champion swimmer, snooker player, loved golf, still loves fishing and is also an artist. I hope you enjoy his recollections - cheers, karin (his daughter)

  • I worked for John Gailey Radio as an after school and holiday job for a while and Mum and Dad remember me walking down Katoomba Street with a radio under each arm.

  • After that I got a job at Katoomba Woolworths after school and during holidays.  Whilst working there, the area behind the counters was very narrow and I bumped into a display of "California Poppy" a men's strong smelling hair oil.  It crashed down and they all smashed on the heating pipes on the floor and made a dreadful mess of broken glass and hair oil.  I left Woolies that day!!
