recollections of Port Macquarie: knife attack

* a collection of stories and memories, in no particular order, from the life and times of John Clarke, who served as a policeman in the Australian Police Force, a great practical joker, he also had a great affinity with people and wildlife, was a champion swimmer, snooker player, loved golf, still loves fishing and is also an artist. I hope you enjoy his recollections - cheers, karin (his daughter)

Another incident that happened while I was a Police Officer at Port Macquarie, I got a call-out to a chemist shop on Koolumbung Creek, a new shopping centre.  I went in plain clothes and was attacked by a bloke who had broken into the chemist shop with a knife.

When the bloke attacked me, we had a huge fight on the riverbank and in the end, I managed to kick him into the river.  Some more Police arrived and commandeered a dinghy from two fishermen at the boat ramp and they caught this bloke in the middle of the River.  He grabbed the side of the dinghy and tried to overturn it.  One of the Police Officers fired a shot into the water and then towed the body into the boat ramp.  He was a drug addict just out of gaol, where he went back to after this!
